What Happened?

Here's what your fellow COLA Club members had to say about some of the events last month:

Table Rock Camping

What a great time! Getting there was much easier in the daytime - and no fog! Those of us who were brave hiked all the way down the gorge. What a view! Of course, it poured rain the entire way back. I like 3 day camping...and the breezes at the top of the ridge.  This was a fantastic weekend!! Great group! Excellent food and games! Table Rock is one of my favorite camping spots! We did a bit of climbing the first day. I had never done any hiking there. It was really great hiking down into the gorge! The swim was awesome! Izzy got some `camping 101` lessons. The next day we hiked to the Summit! Beautiful view! We could see thru Scott’s binoculars the river where we hiked the day before.

Party & Summer Concert Series

Thanks to Ronnie & Wanda for hosting a fun little gathering poolside. If the pool were on the other side of the building it would have been perfect for listening to the concert without having to worry about having our coolers searched. As it was we had good food, a good group, listened to some good music (Danielle Howle rocks!), and the best weather we’ve had all week.

Fore....Three....

You all missed a chance to hit a bucket of golf balls with no pressure to be the best. Then the group went on to a Par 3 course and Tom won the Beer Hole but Elliot won the game by one stroke over Tom. It was on to Hooter’s for their great wings and Buffalo Shrimp. Believe me I thought that the $1 draft beer and the food was definitely the highlight. This was my first time at this fine establishment, so go for the wings and you will not be disappointed.

Events on Tap

Who says it's the dog days of summer?  Check out the web site for these and other fantastic events.

Skydiving

Sat, 7/17/2004 10:30AM

Make your first jump a 120 MPH freefall TANDEM skydive! The classroom instruction takes approximately 30 minutes. When it is your turn to jump, you and your instructor board the aircraft together for the ride to altitude. After reaching the desired altitude, it is time to freefall with your instructor attached behind you as your personal guide. You will accelerate to over 120 miles per hour for up to 60 seconds. Then you can pull the ripcord and enjoy a breath taking five minute flight under your parachute built for two. Yes, these parachutes truly fly and you get to assist your instructor in steering.

Indoor Climbing

Wed, 7/21/2004 5:45PM

You don't need to know how to climb to join us for this. The $10 includes your gear. The owner gives the Cola Club a $5 discount so come out and get a mid-week stress reliever!

Camping At Pisgah

Fri, 7/23/2004   4:00PM

Camping at Davidson River in the Pisgah National Forest! The Davidson River Campground is located about a mile past the main entrance to the National Forest when coming from Brevard, on the left. Flush toilets, hot showers, amphitheater, and river swimming are all offered here. This campground is closest to the most trails: the fun, steep, and fairly technical North Slope trail starts right out of the campground itself, and several fun trails start across the street! Climbing, fishing, hiking & Swimming! Sliding Rock is very near!

Training, Camping, Fishing, and BBQ week

Fri, 7/30/2004 6:00PM

Lets go to Croft State Park and plan on doing a little Adventure race training which includes a little hiking, a little mountain biking, a little kayaking and a lot of eating and drinking. Only a little more than an hour from Columbia and is usually not very crowded. It has full shower facilities and prepared tent camping areas overlooking the lake. see ya there.

Fri, 8/6/2004 4:00PM

Help Wanted

Have you ever looked at our calendar and wondered how we get such awesome events?  It’s because of a group of dedicated members called Event Leaders.  These folks make use of all their contacts and resources to gather information about local and regional happenings that members of The COLA Club may be interested in doing.  We’re looking for a few interested people who would like to add to the variety of great things we do!  If you’d like to find out what it takes to become an Event Leader, send a chicken message to Tom Myers or Louise Rehwinkle.
