Who knew that Scrabble could be a drinking game too?

Covered in mud to avoid detection, the group ventures into the woods to hunt "The Predator".

Now remember...if you hear banjo music that means you paddle as if your life depends on it!

Beer Tasting

If you are a beer connoisseur, you missed out on a selection of beers you can’t find here in town!!! She brought a large cooler filled with beers. There was Coffee Porter and a beer that came with a story of Alexander the Great’s wife! Imperial beer! And Pam’s Pepper Poppers are homegrown and homemade! Quite labor intensive and yummy! Thank you, Pam & Tom for an excellent event!

Crowder’s Mountain Hike

Crowder’s was an excellent trip! We had some beautiful weather! Great company! This was the first time on real rock for many! And it was a ball! Let’s do it again!

Whitewater Rafting - Gauley River

The COLA Club jinx lives! It rained all day Saturday but we didn’t care...we were gonna get wet anyway. It was a much better trip than last year, and we’ve got the DVD to prove it! Check Ofoto to see the pictures. About half the group ended up swimming at some point, and three decided they liked it enough to run it again on Sunday in smaller boats! Other members went horseback riding on Sunday and thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Next year can’t come soon enough!

Events on Tap

Fall may be a time to look back at the great year we've had so far, but we've got a lot more in store!  Check out the web site for these and other fantastic events.

Sleepy Hollow on the River

Sun 10/17/2004   7:30PM

Come and enjoy this exciting outdoor stage event. Bring your blanket and come out and enjoy live horses, thrilling swordplay, lavish costumes, and festive 18th century dance. Seating is general admission and all shows begin at 8pm. Tickets are $5 for children and $10 for adults. You may also purchase your tickets at the gate during the night of the performance.

Fall Color Extravaganza

Fri 10/22/2004   2:00PM

Come meet us up in Pisgah National Forest to see the fall colors. This will be a backpacking trip, but others could also come for a day hike and join us on the trail. I will set an itinerary and post it so that you may find us. We will meet Friday afternoon and pack in along beautiful trails with color and water features. We will keep the travel short each day to allow for exploration and relaxation. This will be perfect for those that want to try it but are not sure about backpacking.

Campground Massacre

Sat 10/23/2004   5:00PM

A haunting we will go! This is one of my favorite haunted trails. Campground Massacre is located near Charlotte, NC. We will meet at 5:00PM to begin our dark journey. The event starts at 7:30PM so we will plan our last meal before we arrive. I hear the monsters like their victims bloated! Dress warmly and comfortably as this does involve walking, or running, through the woods.

Congaree River Moonlight Paddle

Tue, 10/26/2004 7:00PM

Paddle the Congaree River in downtown Columbia as the moon rises. Adults only. NOTE: YOU MUST REGISTER & PAY IN ADVANCE AT RIVER RUNNER OUTDOOR CENTER (905 Gervais Street).

Last Camping Trip of the Season

Fri 11/12/2004   5:00PM

Hiking and Hot tubs. Hopefully this will be a decent time to go on the trip. We will be camping at one of the group campsites. Everyone bring wood so we can have a big bonfire. We will do some hiking, shopping and hot tubing. There is an opportunity to do a little rafting on the French Broad but we will check with the NOC before we plan that. I will come up with a menu so we can plan our food accordingly. See you there.

Day Hike & Climb

Sun 11/14/2004   8:00AM

Let's do this again!! Crowders! Hiking! Rock Climbing. From the Linwood parking area, it's a nice day hike up to the climbing area and back down. You don't need to know how to climb. We will teach you. Bring water, lunch and snack. Also, something warm (jacket) in case it cools down while we are there. At RSVP, post hiking &/or climbing and if your want to carpool or meet us there. I will send directions. Make sure you print them off to have with you.
