Hear Da Funk, See Da Fireworks

August 29 will be the grand finale in Columbia’s Summer Concert Series at Finlay Park. Local favorite The Root Doctors will bring their funk/rock show to the stage for what promises to be a night of fun. The concert kicks off at 7:00pm, and will conclude with a spectacular fireworks show that starts at 10:00pm. We’re going to meet at A Woman’s Sole and head over from there. Sign up today!

  Old Man Mountain
The last camping trip before Labor Day takes place August 22 at Grandfather Mountain! A Saturday hike up the mountain and a Sunday trip to Linville Caverns are on the agenda. This has been one of the most popular camping events over the last year, so take advantage of one last chance to get away from it all before we start thinking of fall.

One of the Upper
Gauley Class V rapids

  Take Me To The River
Once again, The COLA Club teams up with CHOA to head for West Virginia and some of the best whitewater rafting in the world. On September 19 we’re headed for the Gauley River. Novices and those faint of heart can tackle the Lower Gauley, which has some challenging Class IV and V rapids. For those who are up for a challenge, the Upper Gauley awaits. Rated as one of the top 6 rivers in the world, there are no fewer than five Class V+ rapids, including a 14-foot drop! We’re getting a great
discount thanks to CHOA, but your money is due by September 2. We get 2 nights of camping, breakfast and dinner at the outfitter’s place, and lunch on the river. Helmet, paddle, life jacket, boat, and transportation to and from the campsite are provided.

Support Your MS 150 Riders and Challenge Racers
The MS 150 is coming up, and The COLA Club team is hard at training for this incredible ride. They’ve put in a lot of sweat and energy so far, but they’ve also put up their own funds. Riders have to pay a $30 registration fee and raise at least $200 apiece. To help in their cause, we have put together gift baskets that will be present at major events. You can buy a raffle ticket for $2.00, or 3 tickets for $5.00. The money we raise will go toward defraying some of their out-of-pocket expenses. If you want to ride or volunteer, sign up today!
We also will use funds raised to help cover some of the expenses our Carolina Challenge racers have had. They’ve represented us very well at the first four events, and with one more to go on October 11, you can bet they’ll be seen running, biking, and paddling around town. We’re hoping to have 3 teams at the last event, so if you’re interested in participating check out October’s events.
