The Cola Club Team finished the MS 150 at North Myrtle Beach. We were really humping and had a blast. We need more team members next year.

Take a Trip on Us!

The COLA Club has a simple goal:  300 members by the end of the year.  As an incentive to bring in new blood, we’re going to have a drawing for a 3 day/2 night vacation to your choice of one of the top resorts in the US!

For every new member you bring to The COLA Club in September, your name will go into a drawing that will be held in early October.  For more information on the raffle and its available destinations, please send a Chicken Message to Tom or Louise.

Events on Tap

Check out the web site for these and other fantastic events!

Blood Moon on the River

Ready for the scare of your life? This haunted attraction at Saluda Shoals Park is not for the faint of heart. Souls brave enough to enter will have to face the haunted trails, the Maze of Darkness, and frightful and disturbing images around every corner! Children are welcome, but those under 12 must be accompanied by an adult. Tickets can be purchased at the park in advance or at the gate the night of the event.  We’re meeting Friday 10/24 at 7:30pm.

Halloween Party/Member Mixer

Gremlins and goblins beware! We are having a Halloween Party on October 31 at 7:00pm. Costumes are optional but highly recommended, best one will take home a treat. Be warned: Those who try to enter without a costume will receive one. Don't say we didn't warn you! We will have games and fun for the night. Musical chairs, scavenger hunt, old fashioned drinking games, pig pin ho-down, blind identifications, and lots of other surprises. We will have food, soda, and some adult beverages. However if you care to bring additional beverages and/or finger foods, it will be devoured by the creatures of the night.

Black Balsalm Knob

This is a great chance to get a beautiful view of the fall colors. A trip into Pisgah National Forest for hiking, picnic, biking, waterfalls and open skies! You will NOT be disappointed! Black Balsam Knob, At 6214 feet, is a mountain top clearing with a 360 degree view of Pisgah. We will hike one mile off the Blue Ridge Parkway to the Knob. You can camp there or make it a day trip. When you RSVP, post day trip or camping & gear you have or need.  We leave Friday November 7 at 2:00pm.

What You May Have Missed

Whitewater Rafting

This was by far the "best" white water rafting trip ever. I knew the upper Gauley was ranked #2 in the country but didn’t know what that really meant until Saturday.

The runoff from Hurricane Isabel played havoc with the planned dam releases, so we ended up on a far more technically challenging river than they usually get. Still, it was an exciting, thrilling ride. We went down a 14-foot drop almost completely backwards. We worked during the technical rapids and learned a lot about working our raft out of jams. We were pumped full of adrenaline for several hours.

Nights around the campfire, again, were more like college parties than anything else, staying up late and consuming huge quantities of alcohol and food.

There’s nothing like a COLA and CHOA club trip. Anyone that wants the thrill of a lifetime must try this -- after you get some paddling experience.  We will do this again next fall. This is too good an adventure to pass up.

Happy Hour (Flying Saucer)

And so we gathered together for a happy, happy hour in the warm, fuzzy bosom of good friendship, good food, and Quality Beer.

But, alas, my gentle readers, The Flying Saucer was Out of Chocolate Stout.

There was much wailing and gnashing of teeth, but Brave Little Toasters that we are, the members of The Cola Club soldiered on! We quaffed Ambers, sipped Brown Ales, savored Porters.

...but alas, there was no Chocolate Stout

We drowned our sorrows in steaming platters of chicken quesadillas, stacks of warm, soft pretzels, and piles of crispy chicken fingers.

...but alas, there was no Chocolate Stout

We were dazzled by newbies and returning oldies, and entertained them in turn.

...but alas, there was no Chocolate Stout.

So, we shall return to The Flying Saucer, and we shall force ourselves to endure the clever conversations, the delicious food, and the Quality Beers, we shall return again and again, sounding our battle cry of "More friends, More food, More Fun!" until we get out Chocolate Stout!

Columbia Inferno Hockey

The Inferno game was excellent! We had a nice group there! Kari came with her warm, light, roll-it-up and carry with you blanket. I think she is a Hockey Spectator Pro! Brenda and Kari had their clappers with them! Jen fielded all the questions from those of us that don’t know the game!
