Take a Trip on Us!

The COLA Club has a simple goal:  300 members by the end of the year.  As an incentive to bring in new blood, we’re going to have a drawing for a 3 day/2 night vacation to your choice of one of the top resorts in the US!

For every new member you bring to The COLA Club in September, your name will go into a drawing that will be held in early October.  For more information on the raffle and its available destinations, please send a Chicken Message to Tom or Louise.

Events on Tap

Check out the web site for these and other fantastic events!

Margarita Monday

Nothing like a cold margarita after a tough Monday at work, right?  Well, what if that margarita was only $1.95?  Meet your fellow COLA Club members at El Amigo on Beltline Blvd on September 22 and waste away again (that’s a Jimmy Buffett reference).

Trail Bike/Walk/Run/Cookout

Come to Manchester State Forest in Sumter with us to ride, walk or run the trails on September 27. There are three trails ranging from 4 to 11 mile loops. You do not have to be an expert so we would like to see some new faces there. We'll make a day of it by bringing a BBQ grill and cooking out. Bring your own food and drinks. If you're not into the trails bring a chair and book and relax in the shade. Trail fee for bikes is $4.00 for a day or if you have an annual pass for Harbison it is also good here. Walk/Run is free. I need a volunteer to bring a grill as I do not have one and I will bring charcoal and lighter. We'll meet at Wendy's across from the Veterans hospital and carpool from there.

Indoor Climbing

Come climbing at Stronghold Athletic Club on October 1.  It's fun! It's an excellent workout! You don't need to know how to climb. If you are a member of SAC, you climb free! As a Member of the COLA club, you get a discount on this climbing event and provides the harness and shoes!

What You May Have Missed

White Wine Tasting

Brilliant and snappy, this wine tasting started with a tangy mix of droll yet vibrant conversations, neatly complimented by an array of tasty victuals. The wines themselves were beautiful from start to finish, gliding effortlessly across the palate. They were just delicious.

Our lively and convivial guide through this intriguing yet harmonious posy of white wines boldly lead us through a blind tasting, filtering out any label snobbery or mis- and pre-conceived bias. He closed the evening with a generous gift of red wine to all the participants, leaving a lingering harmony and lightness of being that resonated on the palate.

This Wine Spectator gives the evening a 99, with one point being deducted because it ended too soon.

Day at the Beach

We had a great time at the Isle of Psalms near Charleston. The weather was perfect and the water felt great. We definitely needed a day at the beach!

Grandfather Mountain Camping

Well, the ColaClub legend (curse) continues - it rained! Friday night only, after we went to bed. Beautiful day Sat and Sun (I even put a sweat and pants on!), incredible hike, breathtaking waterfalls, amazing caverns.

Gamecock Football

When you combine true Gamecock fans, good food, and cold beer then you have a great party. Plus, the TV was huge! It was a lot of fun.

Wedding Bells

Congratulations to Glenn Taylor and Christina Perry, who (finally) tied the knot on August 29!

Preferred Vendor of the Month (PVOM)

This month’s preferred vendor is Frank Price Company.

Here’s what one of our COLA Club members had to say:

Dread doesn’t begin to describe the feeling I had when I thought of the horse-trading involved in buying a new car, so decided to call personal automotive shopper Frank Price who is listed on the COLA Club website as a preferred vendor. After I read the information on his website, I figured I had nothing to lose, and if I did, I could yell at Tom and Louise since I found him through the COLA Club. I called Frank, who is essentially a freelance matchmaker between car buyer and car dealer and I told him what I wanted, how much I could spend, and the lowest loan interest rate I’d found so far. The next day, a slightly pre-owned Jetta VW wagon appeared for me to test drive. Car Cupid shot an Indigo Blue arrow into the gray velour interior of my car buyer’s heart, and I said, “Yes, that’s it!” Within a day or two, we exchanged keys, and, full of that heady feeling of Fahrvergnugen, I drove off in my new VW.  Susan Cate, a Very Happy Car Owner!
